Strategy Selection in Public Games with Punishment on Small World Network

چکیده
Investigation of punishment has shaken the positive role in the evolution of cooperation. However, punishment is ubiquitous in nature, and more favored by certain modern societies in particular. To explore the underlying principle of such phenomenon, we study the evolution of cooperation in the context of punishments subject to social network. The results suggest that punishment has a great effect on the evolution of cooperation. In the network structured population, highly cooperation emerged even with ordinary punishment. As the number of social neighborhood increase, the cooperation will decrease.

Robust Opponent Modeling in Real-Time Strategy Games using Bayesian Networks
Opponent modeling is a key challenge in Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games as the environment is adversarial in these games, and the player cannot predict the future actions of her opponent. Additionally, the environment is partially observable due to the fog of war. In this paper, we propose an opponent model which is robust to the observation noise existing due to the fog of war. In order to cope...
متن کاملThe evolution of antisocial punishment in optional public goods games.
Cooperation, where one individual incurs a cost to help another, is a fundamental building block of the natural world and human society. It has been suggested that costly punishment can promote the evolution of cooperation, with the threat of punishment deterring free-riders. Recent experiments, however, have revealed the existence of 'antisocial' punishment, where non-cooperators punish cooper...
متن کاملEvolutionary prisoner's dilemma games on the network with punishment and opportunistic partner switching
Punishment and partner switching are two well-studied mechanisms that support the evolution of cooperation. Observation of human behaviour suggests that the extent to which punishment is adopted depends on the usage of alternative mechanisms, including partner switching. In this study, we investigate the combined effect of punishment and partner switching in evolutionary prisoner’s dilemma game...
متن کاملPositive interactions promote public cooperation.
The public goods game is the classic laboratory paradigm for studying collective action problems. Each participant chooses how much to contribute to a common pool that returns benefits to all participants equally. The ideal outcome occurs if everybody contributes the maximum amount, but the self-interested strategy is not to contribute anything. Most previous studies have found punishment to be...
متن کاملWhy people punish in public goods games , and on whom punishment is most effective : Conventional wisdoms reconsidered
Theoretical and experimental research underscores the role of punishment in the evolution of cooperation between humans. Experiments using the public goods game have repeatedly shown that in cooperative social environments, punishment makes cooperation flourish, and that withholding punishment makes cooperation collapse. In less cooperative social environments, where antisocial punishment has b...
